We have had an unseasonably mild winter here in WI and now having spring weather barely the second week in March!
The last week in February I noticed my tulips poking their noses out of the ground and the trees starting to bud. I had a little chat with them about it not even being close to spring, but the tulips keep getting taller, so I don’t think they listened.
This may happen yet!
Two days ago it was almost 70 degrees! I ate my lunch outside and decided to bring out my wicker settee and the white iron chairs. My colorful outdoor pillows were placed on each and I laid down on my wicker settee, noting it needs a new coat of white paint, closed my eyes and allowed the sun to caress my face. I dreamed of green grass and blooming gardens. Oh the plans that were hatched!
Yesterday I painted a canvas outside and got my dye gardens ready for summer! I walked around on the warm dirt in my bare feet and absorbed the good of the Earth. I truly had happy feet!
Getting started with some finger painting first.
While doing the dishes this morning I looked out my window and saw a Robin sitting on the fence. A ROBIN! I love Robins and always have a family that takes up residence in my yard. Each summer, I go out on my front steps, with my morning coffee, and watch the mama Robin hop around looking for worms. I ask her about her day and she stops, tips her head to the side, listening intently, until she hops off to check for more worms. She has babies to feed after all!
Not my Robin, but they are probably related. 🙂
The tulips and budding trees are early and I don’t trust their gauging of the arriving early spring, but having the Robins show up is a completely different story. They are my little messengers that spring is truly arriving. I hope they know I am trusting them with this information.
The Robins usually build their nest in the curve of my gutter downspout, and I get a “birds eye view” of little beaks peeking out the top, wide open, waiting for their next meal. Not long after, I can see their fuzzy heads and then before you know it they are taking their first flying lessons.
Okay, I have already envisioned myself into the middle of the summer!
Back to spring.
I was talking to my youngest about his favorite season this morning. We were in agreement that between 50 and 75 is the most glorious temperature. He said having that kind of weather all year would be his choice. I like the changing of the seasons and am usually ready for them when they arrive. He chimed in that then winter needs to be shorter and summer longer. He does have a point there.
Spring brings a sense of renewing and rebirth of the earth. I get excited for my tulips to start blooming and the Earth to start turning from grey skies and brown trees, to sunny blue skies and color everywhere.
How about you?
Are you loving that spring is battling for its turn and waking up the Earth?
I hope you step outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, fill your lungs with fresh air, and maybe wiggle your bare toes in the warm dirt under them.
