I am sitting at my art desk cluttered with a notebook full of notes, my computer open playing YouTube tutorials, painting a rose on canvas while trying really hard not to dip my paintbrush in my now cold cup of coffee, all while watching giant snowflakes dance around outside.
While I welcome in the last day of October, and the snow starts to accumulate, I am happy that I had the clarity of mind to mow two days prior.
Pretty snowy village as I forgot to take a picture of the first snowfall.
Is it just me or did the shorter days, aka, less sunshine and the chill in the air, sneak up on us quietly and quickly? I find myself ill prepared for Autunm and even less prepared for scooping snow. How did this happen?
Maybe it is that so many things happened in rapid succession at the end of the summer.
Here is the thing, I am a home body. Going to Walmart means I am completely out of food and have no other choice, so visiting two states and two countries in a matter of three months is way out of my norm and comfort zone. As much as each one was awesome in itself, I find myself ready to cocoon for a while.
In October I had the good fortune to traveled twice across my beautiful state of Wisconsin, at the peak of Autumn color, and the colors did not disappoint! We were blessed with a spectacular rainbow of color and driving was a challenge as I wanted to look at the red, orange, and yellow trees, vines, and bushes that lined both sides of the road instead of watching the cars in my path. No accidents occurred; you will be happy to know.
Not my road, because driving and taking pictures is never a good idea.
My plan has been, when my home and work gardens got put to rest for the winter, I would delve more into getting my business started. So, what does this mean? A lot of learning and more neuron pathways being created for one.
First, I talked to my sweet niece, who has her own Etsy shop – asking questions about fees, posting, and all around managing the site. We also talked about publishing books, as she is learning to do so as we speak. I have a book waiting in the curtains and was very interested to know more about the class. It was a four-hour conversation with tons of questions being answered. Life updates, and her sweet 11-month-old chiming in were the highlights of the conversation.
I am now signed up for the writing/publishing class, starting an Etsy shop, being more committed to my blog and continuing to create in my varied art paths. Whew!!
What have I learned so far?
Setting up an Etsy Shop will take time but will be fun to design.
Making stationary from my eco-prints steamed on paper is way more complicated than I thought.
That you can change a photo to a pdf, who knew. No eye rolling, I didn’t grow up with computers. 🙂
Finding out after all this time I that all I had to do was download an app so I can scan from my printer to my computer, only to find out it completely washed out the prints.
That a sweet local artist was willing to give me some direction on making stationary.
That the lady I talked to on the phone from Office Depot is super nice and full of great advice. I know that is her job, but for someone that does not like calling strangers on the phone, it was a great relief.
Opening a business checking account takes a lot longer than a personal checking account.
That I am really excited to journey through all the new learning curves and start a new path.
And what is becoming very apparent is I need a bigger calendar and to become way more organized.
Soooo, if you happen to see me walking around with a dazed expression on my face, and I can’t remember your name, just remind me of who you are and steer me in the right direction, it will be greatly appreciated.
